My sister has been taking birth control pills for many years to cure her acne problems as well.

Researchers have found that when there is an increase of progesterone in the female body that creates a hormonal imbalance prior to menstruation the increase in sebum often results in an acne breakout that’s why medical researchers always look into the relationship between acne and progesterone when studying the cause and treatment of acne. I had quite a bit of acne well into my twenties and to my surprise the acne cleared up completely one or two months after taking the oestrogen-progesterone pill Marvelon. I later read that this was because it increases the oestrogen : androgen ratio in our body and that reduces acne significantly. It is no coincidence in my case. I stopped taking the Pill while trying to conceive and thru out pregnancy and my acne returned then.

Birth control pills did reduce acne in my case.
