Olive Oil and Acne

A little while ago, I heard that olive oil was an effective natural acne treatment. It sounded ridiculous. My acne is caused by oily skin, and you expect me to apply yet more oil to my skin? No, thank you. Not a chance. Definitely sounded like a snake oil sales pitch. And yet…Being an inquisitive busybody, I decided to look into it. I looked on the internet. Read archived posts on forums and discussion boards. Poked around and stuck my nose where it wasn’t welcome. In the end, I found mainly positive results. One group reported that they washed their faces with extra virgin olive oil, then washed off the oil with soap. After one week, their acne became worse. Unfortunately, they did not give any more details than this. Personally, their report does not really make sense. If they washed off the olive oil, then at worst, there should be no effect, right?

Most of the successful cases reported three main ways of using olive oil for acne prevention. The first way is to use a cleanser based on olive oil. One small group of friends actually conducted their own experiment. They tested 3 different brands of olive oil cleanser: a cheap brand from their local departmental store, a high-end brand from an upscale boutique, and another high-end brand bought from a catalog. They found that the cheap brand caused more acne, but the two different expensive brands helped a great deal. Definitely looks like a case of you get what you pay for.

The second group of successful cases used this regimen:

  • Wash with extra virgin olive oil – apply a small amount to the skin, rubbing gently with finger-tips in circular motions. You may notice some hard grainy things. These are actually disloged blackheads.
  • Wash with glycerin soap bar – you can buy the orange-colored bars which Nutrogena sells, or use a generic brand

Some of them reported that after just a few days, they no longer wake up with oily faces. After just two weeks, they find fewer acne breakouts, and their skin has a healthy glow. The third group of successes used extra virgin olive oil as a kind of facial masque.

  • Rinse face in plain warm water.
  • Massage a small amount of extra virgin olive oil into skin until all the oil has soaked in.
  • Dab face with a clean linen cloth until it matts the oily look.

After half-an-hour, they notice the sebum being slowly pulled out of the pores on their nose and cheeks. After just one hour, they find that their skin glows very nicely, without being oily.It seems that normal extra virgin olive oil works very nicely. You do not need to buy the more expensive organic version. I am more comfortable with the idea of using olive oil as a wash, much the same way as removing make-up. Overall, not a method you use to get rid of pimples but a potentially cheap and effective long-term method of acne prevention.

    Hei.

Coconut oil works far better for acne. Simply put it on before you go to bed and all or most of it should be gone in the morning. Continue to apply the coconut oil to prevent acne. Also to stay away from milk products, soy, sugar and MSG, these products at least contribute to the cause of acne. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables which will help clear the skin.

    Hi.

I read this and feel I must come up with what I have experienced and learned of virgin olive oil.

Bought me a book for a richer and healthier life. Lots of good tips on food, health OVS. That said scroll. using virgin olive oil when you do a clean mask.
I was very curious. Since I have been struggling with very acne problems and have tried tons of clean with moisturizers and creams. MD is now using something I’m very happy with, but now that it’s winter skin needs extra moisture. MD products are very expensive and would not completely take my advice to even an expensive product. Therefore, beating taken that I had to test this theory, but maybe just to take it before my moisturizer.

After two days the skin was much more humid and more color. Now I have used virgin olive oil for a week both day and night and are very pleased with the result.

Do comment on it to wash away the olive oil and wash them with soap afterwards. Then the joke away. It will provide moisture and need time to retreat into the skin.

I have both analyzed the type of fat to the mixture to the last sensitive skin. Therefore, I would NOK recommend others if they are struggling with dry skin to try.
This is purely a product we have in the food.

That’s what I had to say about the virgin olive oil.

  6. It worked for me. says:

I noticed that a friend of mine whose skin went through a really bad phase started having stunning glowing skin. I asked her what she was using on her face and she told me she was doing an olive oil cleanse. I tried it at first and thought there were too many steps. So I shortened it. Now I have oily skin so I was a little nervous. But at night I take a cotton ball and dip it in EVOO and rub it all over my face. This gets all the grime and dirt off. Next I take a washcloth with warm water and wipe the excess oil off my face. Then I go to bed. I wake up with soft glowing skin. And surprisingly it’s not oily. I use EVOO to take off eye makeup too.

  8. Olive oil is very tasty and has some nutty taste too.~.-

  9. The olive oil cleanser I ordered from a catalog did make my skin smoother and I didn’t experience any surface acne when using it. My skin was softer, but I do admit that the feeling of putting oil on my face took some getting used to.
