id="more-1323">

Another contributing factor to acne is an overabundance of toxins and poisons in the body. The body uses the liver and kidneys to rid itself of these dangerous substances. If the body contains more impurities than those organs can effectively manage, the skin takes over by sweating out the substances.

All of these processes working at the same time upset the natural healing capacity of the body and create various skin conditions, causing pimples and zits to form.

There are many natural products available that will effectively treat acne. Listed below are several of the best and most well tolerated alternative methods for eliminating the effects of acne.

Keep in mind, however, that some of these methods may have to be repeated over the course of 2 to 4 weeks before any lasting results are noticed.

Pat white vinegar (distilled and diluted if necessary) on areas of the skin affected by acne. Allow it to stay on skin for up to 10 minutes, and then rinse gently with cool water.

Use Echinacea daily to improve immunity.

Take Oregon grape daily to guard against acne-producing bacteria.

Apply lemon juice to areas of the face affected by pimples, zits and other skin conditions. Let the juice stay on the face for up to 10 minutes, then rinse off with cool water. Other citrus juices may be used and diluted if they cause stinging sensations. This solution will work as a natural exfoliate by rubbing off dead skin tissue.

Use dandelion or red clover daily to clear the liver of toxins.

Use Natures Sunshine’s Ayurvedic Skin Detox to remove toxins from the liver.

Using Vitamin A supplements will help severe acne. Consult your physician to determine the correct dosage because overly large amounts can be toxic.

Take Zinc supplements to encourage tissue repair and prevent scarring of the skin.

Try Alternative Homeopathic remedies to dry pimples and heal damaged tissues.

Follow a well-balanced diet and take vitamin and mineral supplements to prevent nutritional deficiencies. Keeping your body healthy will encourage natural healing of your tissues.

Drink plenty of water daily to flush out toxins and to keep the body hydrated.

Home Acne Treatments

Acne Treatment

acne

cystic acne

excess oil

scars

Skin Disease
<guid

I used everything from Accutane to Tetracycline to Benzoyl Peroxide and this natural list brings back some memories. All of these things do work, although I have never tried the vinegar, and are a great addition to your daily skin regimen.

Acne suffers usually go out and spend good money on common over-the-counter acne treatment products. The truth is, most of these products are full of chemicals that can actually slow down the healing of acne, and irritate your skin, causing farther breakouts.

When an acne product has 20 ingredients listed on it, it can be hard to know if one of those ingredients is actually stopping you from having success. It can be even harder when you can’t pronounce the ingredient, much less know what it is and how it is going to affect your skin.

The very sick thing is that most popular acne treatments are not only much more expensive than common household items, but they also don’t always work as well either. With that in mind, I will list some basic household items that can work wonders on clearing up your skin.

Baking soda

- A very cheap cooking ingredient that most people have in their homes already, baking soda can be used as a great scrub. The purpose of a scrub is to exfoliate the skin, removing dead skin that can eventually clog pores and lead to acne spots.

To start off, you’ll want to mix a small amount of baking soda with some water for form a paste. Baking soda is very effective as a scrub, so you want to be sure to be extra careful when applying it to your face. Gently massage the paste into your skin for ten to fifteen seconds. Then rinse the baking soda off, and pat your face dry with a clean towel.

Apple Cider Vinegar

- Though most people that use vinegar to treat acne use the apple cider form of vinegar, you can also use plain old regular vinegar. Regardless of which type you use, vinegar can be very helpful with it comes to clearing up acne. It can kill off acne causing bacteria, balance your skin’s pH, and absorb extra oil on your skin.

Starting with clean, dry skin, apply diluted vinegar (eight parts water to one part vinegar) directly to your skin with a cotton ball, and leave it on. If you want, you can also use a stronger vinegar solution (say, 2 or 3 parts water to 1 part vinegar), and apply it directly to problem areas, rinsing it off after ten minutes.
Lemon or lime juice can also be substituted for vinegar. Both of these juices are rich in citric acid, and can exfoliate your skin very well, halting the growth of acne spots, as well as fading previous, non-active acne quicker.

Egg Whites

- Rich in protein, egg whites can be used as a mask to heal and rebuild your skin. It can also help to absorb excess oil from your skin.

To start off, crack an egg, removing the yolk so that just the egg whites are left behind. Beat these egg whites, and apply them directly to your face. Let it sit for fifteen minutes, and then rinse the egg off.

Oatmeal

- As odd as it may seem, oatmeal can absorb unwanted oil and draw out impurities which reside deep in your skin. Cook some plain oatmeal like you would for consumption. Let it cool off, and rub it over your clean skin. Let it sit for a while, like you would a mask, and then rinse off. If you do this on a regular basis, you should begin to start noticing results soon.

Tea Tree Oil

- is a commonly used all-natural household antiseptic, which you can pick up at most drugstores or supermarkets. You can apply TTO directly to acne spots to kill bacteria, or, if you strongly dilute it with another oil (such as jojoba oil), over your entire face.

Tea tree gel can be easier to apply than the oil, and many are made for applying over large areas of skin, so they aren’t quite as strong as straight TTO and do not need to be diluted.

Pantothenic Acid (Also known as Vit. B5)

- Pantothenic acid can be taken in large quantities for the benefit of acne reduction. B5 works by helping your body to metabolize fats which would otherwise be later turned into sebum (oil) and excreted through the skin. Small amounts of B5 won’t help though, and it has to be taken several times a day.

To help with acne, you will need to take 2.5 grams of pantothenic acid (the powder form is much easier to take), 4 times per day, for a total of 10 grams per day.

Aloe Vera

- Aloe Vera has been used for many years in kitchens for topical application to burns. Another benefit of aloe is that it can prevent scaring, fade marks and help heal acne spots.

You now have an idea of some basic household items you can use on your skin, that work better than many Over the counter acne products, and are much cheaper to use. Since we have only really covered basic acne treatments, you can always take this to another level and take all natural, internal acne treatments.

This sums up our basic list of natural alternatives for chemical based acne treatment products. You can take this a step farther by attacking your acne from the inside out. Acne has been shown numerous times to be very closely affected by the digestive system, so keeping your entire digestive system working as smooth as possible can help reduce acne. I will help give you a basic idea of some all natural products you can take to help clear up acne.

Cucumber, lemon and carrot juice, brewer’s yeast, and active charcoal pills are all capable of helping the digestive system function normally. Since the digestive system is closely related with the health of the skin, they should help reduce acne breakouts. Flax seed can also be wonderful for helping your skin heal faster.

Acne no more

Take a look at your acne problems and the good ways and bad ways of fighting the underlying reasons that you have acne in the first place. It is caused by the skins oil glands making too much sebum, an oily substance, which leads to plugged pores. It also can be caused by the rapid production of a bacteria P. acnes.

Acne lesions occur mostly on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders. It is the most common skin disease. Although acne is not a serious health threat, severe acne can lead to disfiguring and permanent scarring.

Women actually have more and different issues than men with acne.

How does acne affect women?

Most young women and men will have at least a few pimples over the course of their lives. But acne seems to affect men and women in different ways. Young men are more likely to have a more serious form of acne. Acne in young women tends to be more random and linked to hormone changes, such as the menstrual cycle.

As women get older, acne often gets better. But some women have acne for many years. Some women even get acne for the first time at age 30 or 40.

For many women, acne can be an upsetting illness. Women may have feelings of depression, poor body image, or low self-esteem. But you don’t have to wait to outgrow acne or to let it run its course. Today, almost every case of acne can be resolved. Acne also can, sometimes, be prevented. Talk with your doctor or dermatologist (a doctor who specializes in treating skin problems) about how you can help prevent acne and if treatment would help you.

To find out about the the Acne No More Book read my review.

What are the different types of acne lesions?

* Comedo (whiteheads or blackheads) or papules. The comedo is the basic acne lesion, which is a plugged pore. If the plugged pore stays under the skin, it’s called a closed comedo and forms a white bump or whitehead. Blackheads are comedos that open up and appear blackish on the surface of the skin. This black color is not due to dirt, but because the air reacts with the excess oil.

* Pustules or pimples. Pustules or pimples are acne lesions that contain pus and are red at the base.
* Nodules. These are more serious acne lesions. They lodge deeper in the skin, are painful, and can cause scarring.
* Cysts. Like nodules, these lesions are deep within in the skin, are painful, and are filled with pus, and can cause scarring.

Many things can trigger acne in women:
* Hormone changes during puberty. During puberty, girls have an increase in male sex hormones called androgens. This increase causes the glands to get larger and make more sebum.
* Hormone changes as an adult. The menstrual cycle is one of the most common acne triggers.

Acne lesions tend to form a few days before the cycle begins and go away after the cycle is completed. Other hormone changes, such as pregnancy and menopause, improve acne in some women. But some women have worse acne during these times. Stopping use of birth control pills can play a role as well.

* Medicines. Certain medicines, such as those used to treat epilepsy and types of depression.
* Make-up.
* Pressure or friction on the skin. Friction caused by bike helmets or backpacks can make acne worse
* Family history. If other people in your family have acne, there is a greater chance you will have it.

Does poor hygiene cause acne?

It is a myth that women get acne because they don’t wash enough. Too much washing or scrubbing the skin harshly can make acne worse. And washing away surface oils doesn’t do much to prevent or cure acne, because it forms under the skin. The best way to clean the face is to gently wash it twice a day with a mild soap or cleanser. Be careful to remove make-up without harsh scrubbing.

Can stress cause acne?
Stress does not cause acne. But, acne may be a side effect of some medicines used to treat stress or depression. And in some cases, the social and emotional impact of acne lesions causes stress. Talk with your doctor if you have concerns.

Can eating chocolate or greasy foods cause acne?
While many women feel that eating chocolate or greasy foods causes acne, experts have not found a link between the diet and acne. Foods seem to have little effect on acne in most people. But, it’s important to eat a healthy diet for good health.

How is mild acne treated?
There are many treatments for mild acne. Mild acne can consist of whiteheads, blackheads and small pustules. At home, you can wash your face twice per day with warm water and a gentle cleanser or soap. Your doctor may suggest you also try an over-the-counter lotion or cream. These medicines may make your skin dry if you use them too much. Be sure to follow the directions.

If these medicines dont work, your doctor may prescribe a cream or lotion with benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, salicylic acid, or sulfur.

* Benzoyl peroxide works to reduce oil made by the glands.
* Resorcinol, salicylic acid, and sulfur help breakdown whiteheads and blackheads.

If your acne does not get better after six to eight weeks, talk with your doctor about changing your treatment.

Can more serious forms of acne be treated?

Yes. Work with your doctor to find the best treatment for you.

Moderate to moderately severe acne. This type of acne consists of several whiteheads, blackheads, papules and pustules that cover the face and/or other parts of the body. It can be treated with antibiotic lotions or gels, as well as retinoic acid. Retinoic acid is an altered form of vitamin A. It helps prevent whiteheads and blackheads. Your doctor may also prescribe an antibiotic pill, such as erythromycin. If you take birth control pills to prevent pregnancy, antibiotics can affect how well they work. Be sure to use a second method of birth control with the pill, such as a condom. Retinoic acid and antibiotic pills can make the skin sensitive to the sun. So, wear sunscreen and stay in the shade while using them.

Severe acne. Severe acne consists of deep cysts, redness, swelling, extreme damage to the skin and scarring. You should see a dermatologist to care for this type of acne. Scarring can be prevented with appropriate treatments. Your dermatologist can prescribe oral antibiotics and oral contraceptives. Large inflamed cysts can be treated with an injection of a drug that lessens the redness, swelling, and irritation, and promotes healing.

Your dermatologist may prescribe Accutane, if other treatments have not worked. This is a strong medicine that can help prevent scarring and treat active disease. But, Accutane also can cause birth defects. It is important that you are not pregnant and do not plan to get pregnant while taking this medicine. You must use two methods of birth control at the same time. This is done for one month before treatment begins, during treatment, and for a full month after stopping the drug. Talk with your dermatologist about when it’s safe to get pregnant. Other side effects of this drug may include dry eyes, itching, mood changes, and changes in the blood and liver. You and your dermatologist can decide whether this medicine is right for you based on the pros and cons. Use any prescribed medicine exactly as you are advised. Taking more medicine than you are supposed to take may make acne or your general health worse. Ask your doctor what to do if you miss a dose.

Some large cysts do not respond to medication and may need to be drained or removed. Your dermatologist is the only person who should drain or remove these. You should never try to drain or remove your acne by squeezing or picking. This can lead to infection, worsen your acne, and cause scarring.

Overall, if you dont see a change in your skin in six to eight weeks, talk with your doctor about your treatment plan.

Can birth control pills help treat acne?

For women who break out mainly around their menstrual cycle, some birth control pills can help. Research shows that these pills can clear acne by slowing down overactive oil glands in the skin. Sometimes, birth control pills are used along with a drug called spironolactone to treat acne in adult females. This medication lowers levels of the hormone androgen in the body. Androgen stimulates the skins oil glands. Side effects of this drug include irregular menstruation, breast tenderness, headache and fatigue. Spironolactone is not appropriate therapy for all patients.
When is surgery used for acne scarring?

If you have scarring, your dermatologist may suggest surgery to help heal acne lesions and remove scarring. A laser can reshape scar tissue and reduce redness. Dermabrasion is a type of surgery that can remove surface scars and reduce the depth of deep scars. Another option is to transfer fat from one part of the body to the face. In some cases, a single treatment can help scarring. But for lasting results, several are often needed. There are also topical treatments for acne scarring.

Photodynamic therapy is a new acne treatment. It begins with light microdermabrasion. This is used to remove dead skin cells on the faces surface. Then, an acid is put on the skin for 30 to 60 minutes. After this period, the acid is taken off. Lastly, the skin is treated with a laser. This treatment is still being researched, but seems to give positive long-term results.
How can I help prevent acne and acne scars?

You can help prevent acne flare-ups and scars by taking good care of your skin:

1. Clean your skin gently with a mild soap or cleanser twice a day?once in the morning and once at night. You should also gently clean the skin after heavy exercise. Avoid strong soaps and rough scrub pads. Harsh scrubbing of the skin may make acne worse. Wash your entire face from under the jaw to the hairline and rinse thoroughly. Remove make-up gently with a mild soap and water. Ask your doctor before using an astringent.

2. Wash your hair on a regular basis. If your hair is oily, you may want to wash it more often.

3. Do not squeeze or pick at acne lesions. This can cause acne scars.

4. Avoid getting sunburned. Many medicines used to treat acne can make you more prone to sunburn. Many people think that the sun helps acne, because the redness from sunburn may make acne lesions less visible. But, too much sun can also increase your risk of skin cancer and early aging of the skin. When you’re going to be outside, use sunscreen of at least SPF 15. Also, try to stay in the shade as much as you can.

5. Choose make-up and hair care products that are non-comedogenic or non-acnegenic. These products have been made in a way that they don’t cause acne. You may also want to use products that are oil-free.

6. Avoid things that rub the skin as much as you can, such as backpacks and sports equipment.

7. Talk with your doctor about what treatment methods can help your acne. Take your medicines as prescribed. Be sure to tell your doctor if you think medicines you take for other health problems make your acne worse.

Is rosacea the same as acne?

Rosacea (ro-ZAY-she-ah) is a common skin problem often called adult acne. Faired skinned and menopausal women are more likely to have rosacea. Rosacea also seems to run in families. It causes redness in the center parts of the face and pimples. Blood vessels under the skin of the face may enlarge and show through the skin as small red lines. The skin may be swollen and feel warm.

Women with rosacea don’t have the same lesions as seen with common acne. They may have flushing of the face, when they are hot, drink alcohol or hot drinks, or eat spicy foods. This flushing causes the face to appear red. In the most severe form, this redness does not go away. The eyes may become swollen and nodules in the skin may be painful.

You can help keep rosacea under control by keeping a record of things that cause it to flare up. Try to avoid or limit these triggers as much as you can. Antibiotic lotions or gels can also help. Sometimes, you may need to take antibiotic pills. Your dermatologist may treat you with laser surgery. If you think you have rosacea, talk with your doctor about these treatments.

Acne Treatments To Decrease Acne Breakouts

Acne Treatment

excess oil

harsh chemicals

natural oil
<guid

Although the various reasons for the occurrence of acne are mostly internal, some natural acne treatments are very effective in dealing with this menace. If you seriously want to get rid of acne eruptions that spoil your face, it is best to have a daily skin care regime. The easiest thing about these natural treatments for acne is that some can be made at home with general ingredients. Home remedies may work wonders if implemented correctly. If you have a treatment schedule planned out properly you may get rid of common acne in less than a month!

One of the best-known methods of combating acne is the use of topical bactericidal. Its basic ingredient is benzoyl peroxide, which works as a mild bleach. It helps in clearing the skin pores by removing keratin. It is available as an ointment or a wash. Normally there are prescribed rules of using these because overuse may lead to further problems such as skin dryness or irritation.

Treatments for acne however are most effective when they are natural and homemade. One of the best among these is a mixture of lemon juice and rose water. These two ordinary, and easily available, products are “pure” without harsh chemicals and may help you keep an attack of acne at bay at an economical cost. What’s more, the mixture is easy to prepare! You just need to make a uniform solution of lemon juice and rosewater and apply on the regions affected by acne. Keep it on for about half an hour, and then wash it off and you will be surprised at how “clean” your face feels! Another effective but easy remedy for acne to ward off break-outs is the application of fresh garlic on the acne-affected areas at night while you sleep. Wash it off in the morning and get a fresh face along with a relaxed mind.

Many women unwittingly take one of the most useful acne treatments: birth control pills! This is a wonder-pill, to say the least. On one hand it stops unwanted pregnancy and on the other, it balances the levels of certain hormones, which results in the decrease of sebum production. This acts as an acne deterrent.

Sebum glands produce natural oil in various amounts, depending on many hormonal factors such as stress and menstrual periods in women. Once excess oil is produced it creates an ideal condition for bacterial growth. This normally results in acne. Among the numerous acne treatments, contraceptive pills seem to be the most convenient for women (whether or not you are trying to avoid pregnancy). Consult your doctor to see if birth-control pills would work for you. You may have to adjust the dosage for a few months, but it will be worth it to have a clear complexion!

It is important to remember that most acne treatments don’t work for everyone. So try out the various ways discussed but choose the one that suits you best and look like a million dollars with a clear complexion!
Tags: how to decrease breakouts, how to lessen acne breakouts with homemade treatments

What causes acne

Acne Causes

acne

excess oil

food

inflammation

natural oil

oil

pus
<guid

[...]

While there are always new questions to answer, many of the factors that tend to produce acne have been well researched.

Hormones and Sebum

It’s no accident that acne tends to be associated with teens. It strikes over 85% of us during those years. It’s at that stage of life when hormone levels rise sharply. Androgen levels increase in both males and females.

Among other effects, those stimulate the sebaceous glands that produce sebum, the natural oil found in hair follicles. The largest increases occur in the face, back and upper chest – right where acne tends to concentrate. The result can well be an outbreak of acne.

Increased oil or sebum isn’t generally a problem if it reaches the surface. It’s spread around, and often washed off with alcohol or soap and water by those who take good care of their skin. Still, blackheads may form as a result of the excess oil.

Worse, pores can close, causing them to become clogged with that excess oil. That encourages the growth of whiteheads. Also, the resulting pressure can cause follicles to rupture. The bacteria have a more ‘friendly’ environment in which to grow. At the same time, bacteria and the white blood cells that deal with it (normally without any problem) get trapped. The result is pus and inflammation. Acne.

Stress itself doesn’t produce acne, but it can make it worse by increasing hormones. It also contributes to weakening the immune system, thus leading a less effective defense against invading bacteria. But it’s not a major factor.

Drugs cause acne

Certain drugs can encourage the development of acne. Barbituates and tetracycline are known to be among the culprits. Anabolic steroids are widely recognized by professional dermatologists to be a major contributor among those who take them. Forgoing these, except for specific medical purposes, helps reduce the odds.

Heredity and acne

Genetics plays a role, as well. How large, is still not yet quantified. The area is one of active research, and therefore the exact mechanism isn’t detailed. But, statistics show that acne does tend to run in families. That may be partly due to diet or other common family circumstances. But it’s more a factor of inheritance.

Diet & Skin Care that cause acne

This is a much more minor cause than is commonly supposed. While certain foods are themselves greasy, that doesn’t translate directly into increased oil in the skin. Of course, poor eating habits often go hand in hand with poor skin care practices. And, any food that tends to increase the production of sebum (oil) or certain hormones will have an effect.

But no study suggests that the common culprits – soft drinks, chocolate and greasy cheeseburgers, among others – play a large role in producing acne.

Poor cleansing habits play some role, because bacteria that lie near the surface sometimes remain ‘unmolested’. Regular use of a good cleanser can help. Take care that the skin doesn’t become excessively dry, however. That causes other problems.

Also, heavy dirt or even makeup can contribute to a problem by blocking the pore, especially if they block oil ducts. But surface dirt itself isn’t responsible for acne. The dark head on blackheads is the result of exposure to air, not trapped dirt.

There’s little one can do about heredity, and passing through the teen years is a normal part of life. But good skin care, quick treatment at the onset of symptoms and other controllable choices will help keep acne at bay.

How much are the top Acne tretments

Acne Treatment

excess oil
<guid

Acne is widespread among teenagers, although a smaller percentage of adults in their 30′s and 40′s still get acne. Common acne is characterized by the presence of one or all of the following: whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustule or pimples that are seen on the face, chest, back, shoulders, even neck.

Thousands of oil glands can be found in the skin. The oil glands produce sebum, needed to help the skin stay moisturized and effective in its duty as the body’s protective barrier. The face, especially the nose, the mid -cheeks and the forehead have the highest density of oil glands. The back and mid-chest are the parts of the body where the largest oil glands are located. This explains why acne is mostly found in the greatest concentrations on the face, chest and back

Acne begins with clogged skin pores. The early, not-so-noticeable lesions are called comedones Comedones are either open like blackheads or closed like whiteheads. An open comedo is called a blackhead because of the blackish appearance of the skin pore clog. Likewise, a closed comedo is called whitehead because its pore plug is white or skin colored. In terms of openings, blackheads have distended opening around the follicle while a whitehead has a very narrow one, close to the hair follicle. While it’s very tempting, never squeeze your whiteheads or blackheads.

To understand acne better, here are the definitions and explanations of some important terms.

Acne is also often referred to as acne lesions. Lesions are physical changes on the body tissue brought about by a disease or condition.

A papule is a tiny lesion, not more than 5 millimeters in width, that is slightly raised above the skin’s surface. To help you visualize how tiny papules are, they are not easily visible and feel like sandpaper. Pustules, on the other hand, are dome-shaped and contain pus. Pus is typically made up of white blood and dead skin cells plus bacteria.

Nodules are another form of acne. A nodule is dome-or irregularly shaped lesion. Unlike the earlier types of acne, inflammation is already evident in nodules. The inflammation in nodules reaches the deeper layers of the skin and may have already destroyed some tissues. This type of acne may leave some scarring.

Causes of Acne

Before puberty, the sebaceous glands were primarily dormant. During puberty, androgens (male hormones) stir the sebaceous glands into action to produce sebum, the natural body oil. Sebum is supposed to rise and flow to the skin surface. Acne occurs if excessive sebum is produced by the sebaceous glands. The excessive output of sebum results in clogged skin pores which in turn attract dirt, bacteria and foreign debris, and forms the basis of acne. Teenage Acne is almost invariably caused by the increase in hormones during puberty which stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce excess oil.

In each case of acne, it is difficult to pinpoint the exact cause; it is usually a combination of various factors that results in acne for most people. Aside from the excessive production of sebum and age (teenagers are more likely to have acne) the following are risk factors that aid in the occurrence of acne:

Cosmetics, especially the oil-based ones, can plug additional skin pores.

Emotional stress has been known to cause acne.

Personal habits like pricking pimples , over cleansing and the use of Harsh soaps can make acne worse.

Disease and hormonal changes cause acne flare ups, for example pregnancies, or the period preceding menstruation.

Gender and genetic differences is the reason why more boys than girls have acne, since the hormone Testosterone is converted to DHT, which stimulates excess oil product.

Environmental conditions like pollution, temperature, etc, are risk Factors.

Drugs like antibiotics, steroids or oral contraceptives have been known to Trigger the occurrence of acne.

Diet is not medically identified as a cause of acne

Preventing acne

Cleanliness can help reduce bacteria and foreign debris at the site of the pore, but cleanliness alone is not a factor. The following steps would help prevent acne, or at least reduce the severity of outbreaks.

Water therapy

Drinking a minimum of 2 liters daily would keep you hydrated enough to reduce clogged up skin pores. This amount of water daily would enable you to shed more dead cells

Healthy diet

Eating more fruits and vegetables keeps your whole body healthy, especially the skin. With a low-fat diet, there is less oil to clog the skin pores. Make sure you have of the foods identified as antioxidants like vitamins A, C and E as well as those rich in minerals, like zinc.

Choose the Right beauty products

Some beauty products have been proven to aggravate the skin, helping acne form. Some acne sufferers use cosmetics to cover up some blemishes without realizing that the present acne may still get worse because of the additional pores plugged by the cosmetics applied on the skin. You may try natural – instead of chemical-based products such as facial washes with tea tree oil, however about 4% of the population has a skin reaction to tea tree oil, so always test this natural medication on a small area of skin first.

Develop Good Habits

Develop habits that would not add to more plugged pores on the face and anywhere else. For examples, do not leave make up products on your skin when you sleep. Keep your hair away from face because hair contains oil. Never prick your pimples. Pimples on the road to being healed without scars will just become more infected.

At the same time, keep in mind that over-cleansing your skin may irritate it and consequently make the acne worse than it currently is.

Lies about Acne

Acne Causes

acne

chronic stress

excess oil

inflammation

natural skin oil

oil production

pus
<guid

Fortunately, it isn’t necessary to understand them in depth to separate fact from fancy. Common experience can help persuade, too.

Diet and acne

There’s no direct link between eating chocolate or greasy cheeseburgers and developing acne. Soft drinks do not increase the odds. What is true is that diet plays a role in all the body’s systems, and so has a minor part in whether acne is more or less likely.

For example, eating greasy foods doesn’t directly translate into increased oil production from the sebaceous glands that contribute to acne. But foods that do increase the oil production would. However, excess iodized salt is the only food substance that has been shown to have any substantial effect. It only worsens existing acne. It doesn’t cause it.

Hygiene and acne

Diet and hygiene are closely linked. But that’s more because people tend to have habits. People who have a non-nutritious or unhealthy diet tend to have poor hygiene habits as well. But even here the influence on the development of acne is minor at best.

The odds of acne are increased when a pore gets plugged and bacteria are trapped inside. White blood cells rush to the area to combat the bacteria. Trapped dead skin cells contribute. The result can be inflammation and the creation of pus, a component of one type of acne.

So, hygiene habits that tend to close the pores can play a role. But the effect is minimal. The dead skin cells and bacteria that get trapped, and can’t make their way out of the pore to the surface, are only somewhat influenced by whether a person washes the face regularly and well. After acne occurs good skin care is particularly important, though.

A mild cleansing twice a day with soap and water, not heavy scrubbing several times per day, is best. That helps encourage healthy skin in general.

But acne is strongly influenced by excess sebum production (a natural skin oil), triggered primarily by hormones. Good hygiene is a good idea for many reasons. But it helps more in treating acne that has already occurred by providing a good surface for medications to do their work most effectively.

Harsh cleansers applied roughly don’t just clear away the excess oil that plays a role in acne formation. Rather, it weakens the skin’s ability to deal with it. Also, contemporary makeup formulations will rarely increase the odds of forming acne.

Stress and acne

As a factor that weakens the immune system and influences hormones, stress might be thought to play a role in the onset of acne. But no clear correlation is found in major studies. Stress can have a small effect on acne that has already formed, but as a possible cause it ranks very low on the list.

Here again, though, people who experience excess or chronic stress tend to be in the cluster of those who have other health problems. Always a good thing to avoid. Keep in mind that stress and being challenged by ordinary life events are not the same thing. Stress occurs when someone thinks they’re not up to the task of dealing with those challenges well.

Medication and acne

Increasing the dosage of over the counter (or, worse, prescription) medications to treat acne is harmful, not helpful. At best, it wastes medication. At worst, it can actually harm the skin. Stick to the recommendations on the instructions. If over the counter medications don’t clear up the condition within a couple of weeks, seek the guidance of a dermatologist for better treatments.
Tags: acne lies

Acne treatment Options

Acne Treatment

acne

acne products

excess oil

hair products

infection

inflammation

oil

skin irritation

over the counter products that help heal ant treat acne. Here is the info.

Many acne products are available in pharmacies and drugstores. Find out how they differ, what main ingredients to look for and how to use these products for best results.

Many over-the-counter (OTC) acne products are available to treat mild to moderate acne or periodic breakouts. But with so many acne products lining store shelves, how do you know which one is best for you?

Before you grab whatever package is closest, learn how OTC acne products work and what ingredients to look for. Then, develop a gentle skin care regimen to treat and prevent acne breakouts.

How acne develops

Your hair follicles are connected to sebaceous glands, which secrete an oily substance known as sebum to lubricate your hair and skin. Sebum normally travels up the hair shafts and then out through the opening of the hair follicle onto the surface of your skin.

When your body produces an excess amount of sebum and dead skin cells, they can accumulate in the hair follicle and form a soft plug. As the plug enlarges, the follicle wall can rupture, allowing more oil and skin cells to accumulate. Bacteria can trigger inflammation and infection resulting in acne.

Some OTC acne products work by killing Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes), the bacteria that cause acne inflammation. Other acne products remove excess oils from the skin or speed up the growth of new skin cells and the removal of dead skin cells. And in some cases, acne products work by doing a combination of these things.

Active ingredients in acne products

Acne products work in different ways, depending on their active ingredient. Here are common active ingredients found in acne products and how they work to treat acne.

Benzoyl peroxide. Probably the most effective active ingredient in acne products, benzoyl peroxide kills P. acnes, helps remove excess oils from the skin and removes dead skin cells that clog pores. Available in strengths from 2.5 percent to 10 percent, benzoyl peroxide can cause excessive dryness, scaling, redness and minor swelling. It can also make your skin more sensitive to ultraviolet (UV) exposure.

Salicylic acid. This ingredient slows shedding of cells inside the hair follicles, which prevents the pores from clogging. It may also break down whiteheads (clogged pores that have no opening) and blackheads (pores that are open and have a dark surface). Salicylic acid can cause mild stinging and skin irritation. OTC acne products are available with 0.5 percent to 2 percent salicylic acid.

Sulfur and resorcinol. Rarely used alone, sulfur and resorcinol are often found together in acne products. These ingredients remove dead skin cells that clog pores and help remove excess oil. They may also break down whiteheads and blackheads. Sulfur and resorcinol can cause redness and peeling, which may occur several days after using the product.

Alcohol and acetone. Often available in astringents and other cleansing washes, alcohol and acetone remove dirt and oils from the skin. Acne products that contain these ingredients can cause a mild burning or stinging sensation.

Using acne products for best results

To minimize redness, excessive dryness and other skin problems, start out with lower strength acne products. If needed, gradually increase the strength and frequency of your applications so that your skin can adjust to the treatments.

Acne products are just one step in your skin care regimen. For best control of acne:

Avoid oily cosmetics, sunscreens and hair products. Instead use products labeled “oil-free” or “noncomedogenic,” which means they won’t clog pores.

Wash problem areas twice daily with a nonmedicated soap or mild cleanser. But don’t overdo it. Excessive washing and scrubbing can worsen acne.

Apply just enough acne product to cover the problem areas.

Use an oil-free, water-based moisturizer to help alleviate dry, peeling skin.

Don’t pick or squeeze blemishes. Infection or scarring may result.

Treating acne with acne products takes time and patience. It may take four to six weeks of daily use of acne products to see results, and acne may look worse before it gets better. If your acne doesn’t improve after two months of treatment, you may want to see your doctor or dermatologist for a prescription lotion or medication.
